Why accreditation?
The purpose of accreditation is to facilitate the movement of goods and services in the market, not only within Sweden but also across Europe and the rest of the world.
Accreditation confirms competence according to international standards. Everyone should be able to trust that, for example, an accredited laboratory has sufficient knowledge, procedures, and methods to perform its task.
This trust helps meet increasing quality and safety demands on goods and services. Simply put, accreditation is a harmonized, transparent, and repeatable method that:
- enables innovation,
- optimizes the use of resources by authorities,
- increases consumer and business confidence in goods and services,
- ensures legal requirements can be met at a reasonable cost.
Accreditation is a method that can be used by public entities, which ultimately has positive effects for businesses and consumers as well. The method can also be used directly by organizations. For example, laboratories can seek accreditation to enhance their quality work and, consequently, strengthen what they can offer their customers.
Accreditation can also be utilized by public entities or businesses by hiring accredited organizations to perform quality-assured work.
In this way, accreditation can ensure that goods and services can be traded globally in a system where all parties can have confidence.
